London-based Robin Monotti Architects designed the Yacht House on the shores of the Black Sea in Foros, Ukraine. With an interesting compound program, the all-white modern building combines a large water-level boathouse space with upper-floor apartments. Details of the 875-square-meter (9,420-square-foot) building recall nautical motifs.

"The client initially required winter storage space for his 13 meter (43-foot) yacht. The client later decided to add three rental apartments and captain's accommodation to make the most of the site. A significant challenge was how to design the building so that the apartments were not overpowered by the massive door required for the yacht.  Other challenges were presented by a steeply sloping site in a seismically active area, and its proximity to the sea which in bad weather could drench the house in corrosive salt water." – Robin Monotti Architects

The design is anchored by the yacht room, connected to the water by a railed slipway. Balancing the visual weight of the double-height ground level, a series of three distinct volumes are stacked above, with extensive views from indoor spaces and generous balconies outfitted with glass railings.

A tall stair tower connects the buildings floors, and according to the architect, its slit-like windows recall the nearby fortifications of Balaklava.
